For F1 betting fans waiting for open-wheel auto racing action the wait is nearly over.
The 2011 F1 season is just 2 months away –almost to the day- and coming off one of the most exciting finishes the sport’s ever seen in 2010, fans can should have high expectations for the year ahead.
Team Red Bull the 2010 Constructors Cup winner for the top team in the sport and also winner of the Drivers Cup, with young Sebastian Vettel taking the top spot in the drivers competition, will be the team to beat. Red Bull came out of virtually nowhere last season to battle for the early lead in the point standings and remained among the top two teams all season before finishing strong and taking both of the major trophies in the F1 odds competition.
With the new rule changes in the sport legislating parity the competition among the F1 betting teams has perhaps never been more intense.
The Red Bulls will have a very difficult time defending their title against the like so the McLaren and Ferrari. McLaren jumped out to the early lead in last year’s racing action wining two of the first four races and four of the first eight races last season. But ultimately they couldn’t’ keep pace and its two world champion drivers (Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button) finished 4th and 5th in the Drivers Table.
Ferrari started off the 2010 F1 betting season in the top spot after former world champ Fernando Alonso grabbed the first win out of the gate in the Grand Prix of Bahrain and driving mate Felipe Massa taking the 2nd spot. However, the team performed poorly during the middle stretch of the season and Alonso, though favored to win the Drivers Cup, lost it to Vettel on the final day of the season.
The 2011 season will also see a few new challengers to the field as Lotus will field two teams in the upcoming season instead of one. Lotus will pair with F1 mainstay Renault to try and challenge for the top spot in the competition but more than likely adding another team will simply spread this team’s resources even further and could adversely affect its performance.
But we’ll have to wait until March 12th when the 2011 F1 betting action officially gets underway in Bahrain.
