Gil de Ferran Returns to IndyCar

Indy betting has Gil de Ferran returning to IndyCar as a co-owner of Luczo Dragon Racing. The team plans to have one car this season as Raphael Matos will be on the odds board for those that bet on Indy. Indy betting has de Ferran combining with Jay Penske who co-owns the Luczo Dragon team. The team could be one to watch as you bet on Indy since de Ferran is a former Indy 500 winner and two-time series champ. The merger of de Ferran’s team with Luczo Dragon might make them a threat in Indy betting in 2010.

The Luczo team has been co-owned by Steve Luczo and Jay Penske but now it will be known as Luczo Dragon Racing/Gil de Ferran Motorsports. De Ferran will serve as co-owner, president and managing Partner. “We have been talking to Gil about this for some time and we felt this was the perfect opportunity to combine our resources,” Luczo said. “Gil has the experience of working with major manufacturers and leading racing teams all over the world and we feel we can bring the essential business acumen and managerial expertise to the operation. Our skills are highly complementary and we all have the same vision and ambitions. We’re very excited about the direction of our team.”

De Ferran won the 2003 Indianapolis 500 and he also drove in the American Le Mans Series.  He does not plan to do any driving for the Luczo team so he will not be on the Indy betting odds board. The team is taking a look at Graham Rahal who does not have a job at the moment but for now they will have just one team with Matos driving.  “I think right now, that’s the plan,” Jay Penske said, “to run Raf at all the events this year with the possibility of adding other cars in the future is certainly a goal of ours. But right now, we are focused on every race, doing incrementally a better job at all the tracks Raf raced last year and the new tracks added this year.”

Indy betting last year and in recent seasons has been all about Team Penske and Target Chip Ganassi.  Whether Luzco can challenge those two is a question to consider as you bet on Indy.   Keep in mind in Indy betting that Matos was the Rookie of the Year last season.

The 2010 Indy betting season begins in Brazil on March 14th.  Those that bet on Indy will get their first chance to bet on Matos and the Luzco team in that race.
