Heidfeld a Reserve Driver in F1 Betting

F1 betting for the 2010 season begins in less than a month and Mercedes GP had added Nick Heidfeld as a reserve driver. Heidfeld raced for BMW Sauber from 2006-09 but this year he will be with Mercedes GP.  This is a team that is going to get a lot of attention in F1 odds since Michael Schumacher is making his comeback with them.

F1 betting has Schumacher as one of the contenders to win the driver’s title this season.  He is getting much of the F1 betting attention with Mercedes GP but the team also has Nico Rosberg and now they have Heidfeld. “I am very pleased to be joining the Mercedes Formula One Team,” said Heidfeld, “It’s the team which has attracted the most interest in the off season, not only because of the comeback of Michael Schumacher, but also because this season sees the return of the ‘Silver Arrows’ cars as a Mercedes-Benz works team for the first time in over fifty years.”

Heidfeld may be saying that he is happy to be with Mercedes but he is not going to be on the F1 betting board unless one of the top two drivers gets urt.
“Whilst I would of course have preferred a seat as an active driver, I am really proud to be part of the new ‘Silver Arrows’ team. I have seen how committed everyone at the team is and I feel the same. I will be doing my very best to support Michael and Nico this year.”

Heidfeld started in Formula One with the Prost team in 2000. He has driven in a total of 167 Grand Prix races as F1 betting stats indicate. He was with Sauber from 2001-2003, Jordan in 2004, Williams in 2005 and BMW Sauber the last four F1 betting years. F1 odds stats had him fifth in the standings in 2007.  Mercedes is very happy to have Heidfeld. “It’s a great pleasure for us to have signed a driver of the caliber and experience of Nick as our reserve race driver and test driver for the 2010 season,” said Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn.

If you look a little deeper into this signing it could spell trouble for Rosberg or Schumacher in F1 odds.  It has been rumored in F1 betting that the two teammates really don’t get along so if the season starts to go south, one of them could be gone and Heidfeld would be there to step in.
