Kyle Busch Continues Betting on NASCAR History Quest at Martinsville

STP 500 from Martinsville Speedway

Last week Kyle Busch made NASCAR history with the 200th win of his career.  Now keep in mind that the 200 wins are in the three national divisions of the sport. Wins in MENCS, Xfinity, and the truck series all count.  Hence the debate on his place in history against “The King” Richard Petty.  Nonetheless Busch has never been more dominant.  Nor more attractive as the betting on NASCAR favorite to win the MENCS championship this year.  This week NASCAR’s top series travels to Martinsville.  To be exact the season’s first short track race will take place at the “Paperclip.”

Martinsville Speedway

Certainly, Martinsville Speedway is as unique as any track on the MENCS schedule.  Opened in 1947 the track has a combination asphalt and concrete surface that is .526 miles in length.  Concurrently Martinsville Speedway is known as “The Paperclip” because of its long straightaways and sharp corner turns.  Also adding to its differences is that the straightaways are asphalt with concrete on the turns.  Martinsville Speedway holds the distinction of being the only track on the schedule every year since 1948.  A seating capacity of 44,000 adds to the intimate atmosphere of this circuit favorite.

Previous Winners

The STP 500 has been run under various names since 1950.  Last year Clint Bowyer was the betting on NASCAR winner.  Brad Keselowski won in 2017 with Kyle Busch taking the checkers in 2016.  Overall Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin lead all active drivers with three career wins in this event.

Kyle Busch

At the beginning of the MENCS season Kyle Busch is the dominant online betting leader.  Busch has won back to back races and should have won at Las Vegas but instead finished third.  Further, his worst finish was sixth in Atlanta.  Extending that successful look for Kyle Busch is his record at Martinsville.  In 27 career starts at the Paperclip Kyle has two wins, 15 top fives and 18 top tens with an average finish of 12.3.

Denny Hamlin

However, Denny Hamlin has been even more impressive at Martinsville.  Hamlin has 26 career starts there with five wins, 13 top fives and 19 top tens with an average finish of 9.8.  Additionally, Hamlin has been strong this season.  Starting with a win in the Daytona 500 has he set a tone for a championship run.  Hamlin is fourth in the standings with a worst finish of 11th in the first five races on the year.

Joey Logano

Defending MENCS champion Joey Logano also looms large at Martinsville.  Consider Logano has 20 career starts there with one win, six top fives, and nine top tens with an average finish of 13.2.  And in the first five races of the season he has one win and four top tens.

Jimmie Johnson

Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson has nine wins at Martinsville in 34 career starts with an average finish of eighth.

Matchup to Watch

As a consequence of his powerful start Kyle Busch has to rate as the top betting on NASCAR choice on Sunday.  In contrast nobody is racing more impressively.
