That has been the case three times this decade and Big Brown will make it four times in 2008 Belmont Stakes betting.
It has been 30 years since Affirmed won the Triple Crown in Belmont Stakes odds. Big Brown will try and become the 12th Triple Crown winner when he runs the Belmont Stakes on June 7th.
Belmont Stakes betting has seen a number of horses fail in attempts to win the Triple Crown. It has happened 10 times in Belmont Stakes odds since 1978. It happened three times in the 80’s, three times in the 90’s and three times this decade in Belmont Stakes betting. It also happened in Belmont Stakes betting in 1979, the year following Affirmed’s Triple Crown win. Strangely enough, the last six horses to fail in Triple Crown attempts happened in separate consecutive years. Silver Charm, Real Quiet and Charismatic failed in 1997, 98 and 1999 Belmont Stakes betting. War Emblem, Funny Cide and Smarty Jones failed in 2002, 03, and 04 Belmont Stakes betting.
Many of these failed attempts in the past could be traced to the distance of the Belmont or to the horse just not being good enough. Big Brown is unlikely to fall into either of those two categories in 2008 Belmont Stakes betting. He has the talent and should easily handle the distance. The factor that helps Big Brown most of all though in Belmont Stakes odds is that he is not facing any quality horses. The Kentucky Derby and Preakness fields were the worst in recent memory. Hopefully Casino Drive will at least provide Big Brown some kind of a test in Belmont Stakes betting. Casino Drive is related to 2006 and 2007 Belmont Stakes betting winners, Jazil and Rags To Riches.
Belmont Stakes odds will have Big Brown a heavy favorite with most of the public cheering for him to win. Expected Triple Crown odds have Big Brown at 1-5 with Casino Drive at 4-1 and the rest of the field at 10-1 or more. Many bettors will look to single Big Brown in Belmont Stakes betting options that include the exacta, trifecta and superfecta.
