One of the best horses in Breeders Cup betting, other than Zenyatta of course, is Gio Ponti. The horse is going to be a major factor in Breeders Cup odds but we still don’t know in which race. The choice appears to be between the Mile and the Classic. Expect the horse to be pre-entered in both races with the connections waiting until the last minute to make a decision.
Mile or the Classic
Gio Ponti finished second to Zenyatta in the Classic last year but that was on the synthetic surface at Santa Anita. This time the race will be on the dirt at Churchill Downs. That might be enough to get the connections of Gio Ponti to choose the Classic. Plus the Classic is $5 million while the Mile is $2 million. The problem for the owners of Gio Ponti is that the horse is better on the turf. That might lean them toward the mile but they have to face a monster in there in Goldikova who is almost as good as Zenyatta.
Pashito the Che
The horse was pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint on Thursday. The horse could be the one to bet in that race as he has been a model of consistency in his career. He won the $50,000 Hard Spun Stakes on October 13 at Delaware Park. The horse has eight wins and six seconds in 17 career starts. He just barely lost the Sunshine Millions back in January by a nose to This Ones For Phil. Pashito the Che has earned $522,670 in his career. The connections believe the horse fits well in the Sprint especially with the defections of Majesticperfection and Discreetly Mine.
