Breeders Cup odds on Rip Van Winkle will have the horse the second choice beyond the superstar filly Zenyatta in the Breeders Cup Classic on Saturday, November 7th. If for some reason Zenyatta doesn’t go in the BC Classic and instead goes in the Ladies’ Classic then Rip Van Winkle would be the Breeders Cup betting favorite.
Breeders Cup have Rip Van Winkle just slightly behind Zenyatta. It is likely that Rip Van Winkle will be 7-2 while Zenyatta will be 5-2 in Breeders Cup odds. Zenyatta has never lost in her career but she has never faced males.
While Zenyatta is going to get a lot of Breeders Cup odds play, Rip Van Winkle is a very talented horse. “Rip is a great horse and has been swimming against the tide all season,” trainer Aidan O’Brien said. “If people knew half of what he has gone through this season. Most other horses would have fallen away. He is only a three-year-old and has had a long season but we are looking forward to it.”
The question for Rip Van Winkle would be the synthetic surface for Breeders Cup at Santa Anita but that doesn’t seem to concern O’Brien. “He is a real crack miler full of strength and determination.” he said, “I would be surprised if the surface does not work for him. He is one of those who has real mile pace and does not wilt at the end.”
O’Brien is also looking at having another good horse going in the Dirt Mile as Mastercraftsman could get some Breeders Cup odds attention. “We know what he can do on turf and this race gives us another option,” he said.
