Japan and Paraguay meet on Tuesday in World Cup gambling in the round of 16. Japan is a huge surprise as they finished second in Group E while Paraguay was the Group F winner. Paraguay is the favorite in World Cup betting odds for this Tuesday match. World Cup gambling odds include Japan in the round of 16 and that is a major surprise. Not only was Japan not expected to advance from Group E, they were expected to finish last. Japan actually got two wins in the group to finish second behind the Netherlands. They defeated Denmark 3-1 to make it to the knockout round. Keisuke Honda and Kasuhito Endo scored in the first half. Denmark cut the lead in half on a goal from Jon Dahl Tomasson but Shinji Okazaki scored to put the game away for Japan.
Japan was not considered a threat in Group E but they defeated Cameroon and Denmark while losing to the Netherlands. In the deciding win over Denmark, the Japanese were excellent as they created a number of chances. Honda scored the first goal on a nice free kick while Endo did the same. The loss by Denmark was a big surprise. Denmark was expected to defeat Japan but they did not play well and were eliminated in the group stage for the first time in their history.
Paraguay ended up winning Group F which turned out to be the weakest of all the groups in the World Cup. Paraguay needed just a draw in the last match against New Zealand and that is exactly what they played for. Neither Paraguay nor New Zealand had many chances in what was a very dull match that ended up scoreless. Paraguay just needed a draw though so they were happy to get through to the knockout round.
Paraguay is considered the better team than Japan and they are favored in World Cup betting odds. Japan has the momentum though after a very convincing win over Denmark. Japan scored four goals in their three group matches and allowed just two while Paraguay scored three goals in their three matches and allowed just one. With neither team having much scoring potential this could be a low scoring match on Tuesday.
