Messi Delivers Again

The machine that is Lionel Messi continues to dominate and age like fine wine.  As an example, with his two goals in the first leg Messi now has a total of 600 goals for his illustrious career.  In the win over Liverpool he posted what everyone considers to be a world class free kick in the second half to get to the 600 mark.  In addition, that goal came 14 years after he scored his first goal for Barcelona, the only team he has played for professionally.  Messi once again provided the leadership that illustrates why he is team captain.

Plenty of Help

Messi was not alone in his superb performance.  Also delivering when it mattered most was Luis Suarez.  Suarez opened the scoring of the match with a typical goal that reminded fans why he is considered to be a clinical finisher.  On his goal he darted between two defenders to divert a cross by Jordi Alba into the net.  Messi’s first goal at came at the 75-minute mark of a tense and tight match to that point.  He then added the coup de grace at the 82-minute mark.

Massive Advantage

It follows that a 3-0 aggregate advantage will be difficult to overcome for Liverpool.  Messi acknowledged that Anfield is a tough place to play at.  While Liverpool played better than the score indicated the result and situation is what it is.  Last year in the final Liverpool lost to Real Madrid 3-1.  As a result, they were said to be motivated for Champions League redemption.  Now that is looking far less likely.  And the Premier League race is certainly at the forefront of why they may just have too much on their plate at this time.

Killer Instinct

Indeed, Suarez and Messi showed little mercy for Liverpool and applied the sportsbook dagger with great delight.  Marc Andre ter Stegen was excellent in goal to stave off any Liverpool attacks.  On the whole Liverpool held Messi in check much of the match but could not finish defensively.

Matchup to Watch

In this situation Barcelona has the stranglehold.  More of all they don’t look like a team that would squander a three-goal advantage.  Extending their advantage is the best player on the pitch in Messi.
