Upstart Mexico Slight Bet the World Cup Chalk vs. Sweden

Mexico has asserted control of their World Cup destiny from the very start.  With their opening win over Germany the Mexicans established their credibility.  Without question they are a bona fide Bet the World Cup contender.  Perhaps most important was their next match.  Their win over South Korea showed their focus.  For Sweden their loss in the final moments to Germany had to sting.  Now the question is if they can get off the mat.  A win over Mexico can get them into the knockout stage.  But Mexico could prove to be a team of destiny.

Mexico So Far

Mexico started as a bet the World Cup afterthought.  Germany was heavily favored to defeat them.  Nobody was expecting an upset.  But when the shocker happened it caused an Earthquake.  A literal Earthquake.  Tremors were felt on land detectors in Mexico from the celebration.  Germany forced Mexico to make nine saves.  But El Tri got the game’s only goal from Hirving Lozano.  Coach Juan Carlos Osorio devised a brilliant game plan.  He had his team lie back often.  Only to then spring into the counter attack.

Mexican Determination

In their second game against South Korea there were fewer dramatics.  Mexico led 2-0 until the very end of the game.  Carlos Vela got the opening goal for El Tri.  Javier Hernandez later tallied for the 50th time in his international career.  He is the all time leading scorer for the Mexican team.  El Tri carried the play for nearly the entire match.  Although they were not as energetic as the opener it was a workmanlike effort.  And spoke well of the team’s character and determination.

Sweden so Far

Sweden has become more of a structured team than in past years.  The retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic forced this cultural change.  The Swedes are no longer solely dependent on their glamorous former teammate.  Instead they now have a far greater team spirit.  Coach Janne Andersson is the man responsible for the face lift.  One that many observers makes Sweden a more effective unit.  As well as a potentially more attractive sportsbook option.

Sweden’s Opener

In their opener Sweden shutdown weak South Korea 1-0.  It was not a good measurement of the Swedes ability.  South Korea was clearly outclassed.  But Sweden did not score until the 65th minute.  Andreas Granqvist bailed them out on a penalty.  North Korea failed to force the Swedes into making a save.

Sweden’s Second Match

Against Germany however Sweden proved they could stand up to the best.  A tight 1-1 match was broken by Germany’s Toni Kroos in the final moments.  Both teams were forced into making four saves.  It was a draining defeat.  And calls into question Sweden’s mental state for this match.

Matchup to Watch

Mexico is hot and confident.  Sweden is likely going to be drained.  Their Bet the World Cup loss to Germany was a heartbreaker.  The matchup difference should be Mexico’s momentum.  They now believe in themselves.
