Koepka Tops a New Golf Betting Generation of Excellent Players
August 6th, 2019 Golf Betting, Online Wagering

So to like Serena Williams in women’s tennis does Tiger Woods top the marquee.  No figure in all of the golf betting is a bigger name brand.  His win at the 2019 Masters reminded everyone of the past greatness of Woods.  However, Tiger’s aging body broke down at the British Open a few months later.  Woods reputation is based on a glorious past that is long gone.  Namely, younger golfers such as Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Rose are the future.  Supplementing that is the never-ending challenge of gambling value.  Let’s view golf’s current best!

Brooks Koepka

At the onset, Brooks Koepka has topped the Official World Golf Ranking much of 2019.  Koepka won the 2019 PGA championship but suffered a painful second-place finish at the Masters.  Koepka has amassed four major championships for his career.  To show he has two titles in the PGA Championship and US Open.  Koepka posted a most recent win in the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational.   He took over the top of the OWGR after the PGA title. While Koepka is consistent he is yet to reach the dominance of Woods in his prime.

Dustin Johnson

Despite the fact that he has posted only one golf betting major championship Dustin Johnson ranks high.  Johnson’s lone major win was the 2016 US Open.  Second-place finishes at the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open add to the frustration.  As a result, Johnson’s most recent big win was the World Golf Championship Mexico Championship.  Johnson actually led the OWGR for several weeks earlier this year.  Once in awhile Johnson looks ready to emerge as a dominant player but can’t quite finish.  Until Johnson finishes what he starts on golf’s biggest stages will skepticism remain.

Rory McIlroy

In view of his online wagering success in major tournaments, Rory McIlroy impresses many fans and gamblers.  McIlroy has major tournament wins at the PGA Championship, US Open, and Open Championship.  In particular, his failure to win at the Masters remains a rock in his shoe.  McIlroy has not won a major since 2014.  Yet he is one of the most consistent golfers on the professional tour.  McIlroy last won at the 2019 RBC Canadian Open.  He also won THE PLAYERS Championship this year.

Justin Rose

In like manner to Dustin Johnson is Justin Rose.  Rose has but one golf betting major title win; the 2013 US Open.  Despite that fact, Rose has remained near the top of the OWGR due to his consistency.  Although he doesn’t win a lot he always contends.  Rose most recent win was in 2019 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Tiger Woods

Balanced against his name brand price tag are the mixed results of Tiger Woods.  More emphatically Woods carries the perpetual problem of being an overlay past his prime.  Cause by his being the biggest name in the sport is this so.  Furthermore, Woods mania was on full display when he won the Masters.

Of major concern was Woods’s failure to make the cut at the British Open.  His finish of 21st at the US Open was another letdown.  Gamblers will continue to pay exorbitant prices for a name based on the past.  In sum, Woods may contend in some majors with his limited schedule. But any future wins won’t cover for his expensive losses.
