A clear difference will be immediately apparent this week compared to most any other on the PGA Tour schedule. THE PLAYERS tournament from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida is a bigger deal than everything except the four major tournaments. In fact, it is known as a “Flagship Event” that offers a much larger purse and win shares. Most of the biggest names in the sport will be on the Golf betting lines board. Gambling action will be much heavier than for the typical tournament. Let’s examine one of the top tournaments of the 2020 season!

THE PLAYERS Overview
Established in 1974 THE PLAYERS Championship was originally known as The Tournament Players Championship. Specifically, among the differences that set this sportsbook event apart is the highest purse of any other tournament, including majors, on the PGA Tour with $12.5 million. It has been played at TPC Sawgrass since 1982 and features the iconic par-3 number 17 known as “Island Green.”
Last year Rory McIlroy was the winner with Webb Simpson victorious in 2018 and Kim Si Woo in 2017. Tiger Woods was the last repeat winner in 2013 with his second THE PLAYERS Championship title. Namely, the great Jack Nicklaus is the all-time winner at three with wins in 1974, 1976 and 1978.
Top Contenders
First atop the Official World Golf Ranking is Rory McIlroy. McIlroy is coming off a fifth-place finish at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. He is in top form with finishes of fifth for better in his last six tournaments.
Second on the OWGR is Jon Rahm, who has been idle since finishing third at the WGC Mexico Championship. Rahm has finished in the top ten in six of his last seven tournaments.
Namely, Brooks Koepka could bring potential value at 40/1. Consider his OWGR status of third place. Problematic is a recent slump, to which he finished 17th or worse in his last seven outings. Yet the potential is there.
Justin Thomas is fourth on the OWGR and has finished fourth or better in four of his last six tournaments.
Golf Betting Odd Picks
On this occasion, Dustin Johnson brings a good price coupled with the excellent ability with the Golf Betting Lines. Johnson ranks fifth on the OWGR. While McIlroy is in good form his price is prohibitive. Koepka and Johnson bring more upside.
