Like any type of gambling, there are different horse betting types depending on the race taking place. Please refer to this page for the different horse betting types accepted at our racebook. Common horse betting types are to win, place, show, exactas, quinellas, daily doubles, trifectas, superfectas and pick 3.
Horse Betting Types | |
Win | |
If you place a bet to Win, you’re betting on a horse to win the race. In order for the horse to win, they must cross the finish line first. It is one of the more common types of horse betting wagers. Minimum entries 3 for a bet to be official
Place | |
If you are making a horse betting play for Place, the horse you wager on must either finish first or second in order to collect.Minimum entries 4 for a bet to be official.
Show | |
A Show bet is a bet that a horse will finish in the top three in the horse betting. This bet pays out if your horse arrives in first, second, or third place. Minimum entries 4 for a bet to be official.
Across the Board (Win, Place & Show)
| |
Exacta | |
The Exacta is a bold wager but also a huge horse betting payout. You must correctly select which two horses will finish first and second, in that specific order. If you select horse 3 to finish first and horse 7 to finish second, your bet will only pay off if exactly that happens. Minimum entries 3 for a bet to be official
Exacta Box | |
The Exacta Box is a bit of a variation on the Exacta bet. You must correctly identify the top two placing horses, but they needn’t be in specific order. If you place an Exacta Box bet on horses 3 and 7, you are placing a bet that both horses will finish in the top two, but are unsure of which will win and which will place.
Quinella | |
The Quinella is quite similar to the Exacta Box as you must select the top two finishers, but in no specific order –so long as you pick the horses that finish in the top two. The Exacta Box, however, is two bets on the same ticket. Not every horse betting site offers the Quinella. If they do, check to see which offers better value between the Exacta Box or the Quinella. Minimum entries 3 for a bet to be official
Trifecta | |
When it comes to horse betting the Trifecta is the proverbial jackpot. The Trifecta is picking the top three finishers in exact order. One of the hardest horse betting types to get right, the payouts can be enormous depending on the horse betting odds. Minimum entries 4 for a bet to be official.
Trifecta Box | |
The Trifecta Box, as you probably guessed is picking the top three horses regardless of order. Similar to the Exacta Box, the Trifecta Box is actually six bets in one, whereas the Exacta Box is two bets in one. Because there are 6 possible outcomes for your three horses to appear in the money. Say you choose horses 3, 7, and 4 to appear in first, second, or third place, there are six combinations. So if you place a $2 Trifecta Box bet, in essence the total amount of action will be $12.
Superfecta | |
| |
Superfecta Box | |
If you don’t quite have the onions for it the Superfecta, you can go with the Superfecta Box which is correctly choosing the top four placers in any order. This bet is essentially 8 bets in one. Say you place a bet on horses 3, 7, 4, and 9 to finish in the top four, you will collect regardless of the order in which they cross the finish line. There are 24 possible combinations, so the total amount of action on a $2 Superfecta Box bet on those four horses will be $48.
Daily Double | |
The Daily Double bet is fun and interesting. This consists of two win bets on two consecutive races throughout the day. Daily Double bets are usually only available on the first two races of the day and the last two races of the day. You only collect if both your horses win their races. Minimum entries 3 for a bet to be official.
Pick 3 | |
This is similar to the Daily Double. The Pick 3, as the name suggests, is to pick the winner of three consecutive races. Minimum entries 3 for a bet to be official. About Consolation prizes and/or prizes on scratches for Daily Doubles and all Pick bets, any bet will be considered action when a scratch horse has a prize released by the track.
