A horse that could be worth watching in 2010 Kentucky betting is Awesome Act. He went off as the 5-2 second choice behind Eskendereya in the Wood Memorial. Kentucky Derby odds currently list Awesome Act at 14-1.
2010 Kentucky betting favors Eskenederya at about 2-1 so a horse like Awesome Act has some value for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 1st at Churchill Downs. Awesome Act stumbled at the break in the Wood Memorial and threw a shoe. “I didn’t really notice it happening at the time,” said jockey Julien Leparoux, “He was pulling. That hadn’t been a problem before. He has always been very relaxed behind horses. He lets the dirt hit him and just waits to make his run.”
Awesome Act is trained by Jeremy Noseda who is based in Britain. Awesome Act was fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf in his American debut. In his two races since he won the Gotham and lost in the Wood. Awesome Act worked 6 furlong in 1:12.60 recently. “It was a good work for him,” said Leparoux, “He finished up well. I would like to see him run in the Derby the way he ran in the Gotham. He had never taken any dirt in his face before, and he impressed everybody with how he did things that day.” There is definitely reason to believe that Awesome Act can improve off his third place finish in the Wood and be a factor in Kentucky Derby odds.
Noseda was pleased with the workout. He was not able to make it because of the air travel problems around Britain. “Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to see it, but the reports from Julien and Steve Asmussen, who watched the work, were positive,” Noseda said. “Awesome Act finished clear of his lead horse and Julien was very happy with him.
Awesome Again is by multiple Grade 1 winner Awesome Again. He sired Horse of the Year Ghostzapper and champion older mare Ginger Punch. Awesome Act’s dam is Houdini’s Honey who won at about 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Windsor in England. Houdini’s Honey is by the all-time great sire Mr. Prospector. The pedigree for Awesome Act suggests he will really like the added distance of the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont. The horse is not getting much respect and could be a real threat in 2010 Kentucky betting.
