2010 Kentucky betting is likely to feature a hot pace with a number of speed horses. That could set the race up for a closer to win in Kentucky Derby odds. The favorite is going to be Eskendereya at about 2-1.
2010 Kentucky betting should have a full field of 20 horses. Many of these horses are speedballs who like to get to the lead. That should make for an interesting first part of the race. American Lion, Conveyance, Discreetly Mine, Line of David, Paddy O’Prado, Sidney’s Candy, Super Saver and Rule usually like to get the lead. They all can’t have it in the Derby so the traffic jam could be intense at the first turn. Eskenedereya likes to run on the lead or just off the lead. The horse doesn’t figure to get the lead with all of the speed horses in the race. Eskendereya has so dominated his last two races that it may not matter what the pace is.
Trainer Todd Pletcher could start as many as six horses although five seems more likely. Interactif probably won’t be entered. His five would still tie a record though. He has Discreetly Mine, Eskendereya, Mission Impazible, Rule and Super Saver. Just because a trainer has a lot of horses doesn’t mean he will win the Derby though. Pletcher is 0 for 24 in the Kentucky Derby. Pletcher went 0-for-5 in 2007.
Line of David won the Arkansas Derby but he is a longshot in Kentucky Derby odds. He is front running horse that probably can’t dominate in the Derby. He earned a 98 Beyer speed figure in the win. That is 11 points behind what Eskenderya got in the Wood Memorial. Super Saver finished second in the Arkansas Derby and could improve in the Derby while Dublin is a closer and the hot pace of the Derby could help him.
The Blue Grass was won by Stately Victor and his chances of winning in 2010 Kentucky betting are not very good. Horses coming out of the Blue Grass have bombed recently in the Derby. Last year it was Join in the Dance finishing 7th, General Quarters, 10th and Hold Me Back, 12th. Two years ago it was Pyro finishing 8th; Cool Coal Man, 16th; Cowboy Cal, 10th; Visionaire 12th and Monba, 20th. Stately Victor got just a 94 Beyer speed figure in his win in the Blue Grass and that figure doesn’t come close to Eskenderya’s 109 in the Wood.
