2010 Kentucky betting is likely to list Ice Box at about 14-1 on Saturday, May 1st. The horse won the Florida Derby at odds of 20-1 and he is trained by Nick Zito. That gives him a chance to surprise in Kentucky Derby odds. 2010 Kentucky betting is going to have a lot of horses listed at double-digit odds including Ice Box. The horse was not even a serious consideration in the Florida Derby where Rule was the 9-5 favorite. Ice Box ran a nice race in the Florida Derby and he proved he can come from behind to win. That is an important quality in the Kentucky Derby.
Ice Box breezed four furlongs in :48 2/5 over Churchill Downs’ fast main track on Friday. He had exercise rider Stacey Prior aboard and ran with stablemate Morning Line. “I was very happy with it,” Zito said. “The horse has had three mile and an eighth races in a row. I worked him at Palm Meadows before we left (Florida) and this was the work we wanted. Next week we’ll maybe do something a little sharper, and that’s all.” Zito believes Ice Box will have no trouble with the distance. “It’s inside him, plus he did it three times in a row,” Zito said. “He had three mile and an eighth races this winter and won two of them. He’s got great breeding — his mother won a race going a mile and a half and his sire is Pulpit, who was a fantastic three-year-old.”
It has been all or nothing for Ice Box in his career. In seven races he has three wins. Zito could get another horse into 2010 Kentucky betting if Jackson Bend makes it. The horse needs one of the top 20 horses in earnings to drop out as he is 21st on the list. Only the top 20 horses in graded earnings make the Kentucky Derby.
Kentucky Derby odds for the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby are going to be very top heavy. Eskendereya is going to go off as a big favorite and a lot of horses, including Ice Box are going to be listed at double-digit odds. It is really going to be an all or nothing race just as it has been the last two years. Two years ago Big Brown won as the big favorite while last year it was Mine That Bird winning as a 50-1 longshot.
