Kentucky Derby odds for the 135th Kentucky Derby on Saturday are definitely more wide open than the past couple of years when Street Sense and Big Brown won. KD betting should be exciting this year and the sport of horse racing really needs some good news.
KD odds will probably favor I Want Revenge although Pioneerof the Nile will get some attention. Pioneerof the Nile has Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert who is trying to win for the fourth time in KD odds. “You need a lot of luck and you have to be doing great that week,” Baffert said. “You may have the best horse, but if he doesn’t break well or something happens, that’s what makes the Derby so intriguing.”
I Want Revenge looked great in the Gotham Stakes and in the Wood Memorial and will probably be a slight favorite in KD odds. “In the Gotham, he awed me,” trainer Jeff Mullins said. “We figured he would like dirt, but that race, it took a couple days for that race to sink in. It was amazing.” I Want Revenge has last year’s KD betting winner Big Brown’s co-owner Michael Ivarone, who is part of IEAH Stables.
Another interesting horse in Kentucky Derby odds is General Quarters who won the Blue Grass with 75-year-old owner-trainer Tom McCarthy. He is the “feel good” story of the KD and his horse will get attention in Kentucky Derby odds simply for that fact alone.
Kentucky Derby odds will be popular on Dunkirk even though his trainer Todd Pletcher is 0-for-21 in the Derby. Pletcher should also have two other horses in the Derby in Advice and Join in the Dance although neither is a serious threat in KD odds.
Not to be forgotten in Kentucky Derby odds is Friesan Fire who has trainer Larry Jones. Last year it was Jones who had the filly Eight Belles, who was euthanized after breaking her ankles after finishing second to Big Brown in Kentucky Derby odds. This is expected to be Jones’ last Kentucky Derby so his horse should get some interest from gamblers in Kentucky Derby betting.
Last year, Big Brown was popular horse in Kentucky Derby betting. This year there is not one standout horse but a number of contenders in a wide open field of Kentucky Derby odds.
