If the Los Angeles Angels are to gain ground on the Texas Rangers in the American League West they need to win vs. the MLB gambling odds starting on Friday night. The Angels host the first place Rangers in a critical three-game series. The Angels almost have to win on Friday in baseball gambling since they will be facing Texas pitchers Tommy Hunter and Cliff Lee in the final two games of the series.
MLB gambling odds favor Los Angeles on Friday. It is the first game of a nine-game road trip for the Rangers. Texas is scheduled to go with Scott Feldman on Friday. He is 5-9 on the season with a 5.46 ERA. In his last start against the Angels he went 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He has not won in his last six starts with his last win coming in June 18th. In his last three starts he is 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA. He has not pitched well in his career against the Angels as he is 4-6 with a 5.50 ERA.
Ervin Santana gets the call for the Angels on Friday. He is 9-7 with a 3.55 ERA this season. He was excellent last time out against the Rangers. In fact, his start was the only one that the Angels won in a four game series in Texas. In his last three starts, Santana is 1-1 with a 1.57 ERA. He is 9-6 in his career against the Rangers with a 5.77 ERA.
Texas is 24-21 on the road this season and anytime a team is above .500 on the road they are usually in pretty good shape. The Rangers have the fourth best offense in the league and surprisingly, they have the 8th best ERA in the league to go along with their hitting. It is not a fluke that the Rangers are about ready to run away with the American League West.
The Angels went out and signed Dan Haren in hopes that they can improve their pitching staff and make a run at the Rangers. It seems unlikely that Haren will make that much of a difference. If the Angels want to have a chance they really need to take at least two of three in this baseball gambling series against the Rangers.
