July 9th, 2018 Betting on MLB Baseball

The 50th season of the Kansas City Royals was supposed to be a celebration.  Instead it has become cause for a revolt.  The Royals have only one thing to play for.  That is to edge out the Baltimore Orioles at the baseball odds today.  It will be KC or the O’s that ends up with the worst record in baseball.  For Royals fans this has been an astonishing drop.  Just three years ago they were favorites at the baseball odds.  And on their way to a World Series title.  Kansas City has bombed out.  Its top stars are gone.  And hope is many years away.

Minnesota

Minnesota was a popular baseball odds today choice to start the season.  Last year they won 85 games.  Wild card playoff status was theirs as well.  2018 has been a step back for the Twins.  Ten games under .500 at the midway point is a major disappointment.  Manager Paul Molitor has been let down in every aspect of the game.  Both Offensively and on the hill, Minnesota has slumped.

Kansas City

Kansas City ranks near the absolute bottom in all critical categories.  Manager Ned Yost cannot be happy.  Especially after back to back American League pennants in 2014 and 2015.  General manager Dayton Moore was the toast of the town back then.  Now his butt feels like burnt toast.  Yet it is not all Moore’s fault.  He was dealt a bad hand by owner David Glass.  After winning a World Series in 2015 Glass has returned to his old ways.  Once again KC is a penny pinching organization.

Latest Odds to Consider

The Royals have lost nine of their last ten sportsbook matchups.  Over the total has hit in six of their last nine games.  KC ranks equally bad for hitting and pitching.  The Royals rank 30th in MLB for run production.  KC is 30th for both OPS and home runs.  And ranks 30th for staff earned run average.  The Royal WHIP is also 30th.  In its entirety this franchise is an unmitigated disaster.  Fans have turned away in droves.  Gamblers want nothing to do with this pathetic product.

Team vs. Team

Minnesota does have a winning record at home.  They are 23-20 at Target Field.  Just 17 of their 43 home games went over the total.  The Twins have won three of their last four.  Four of their last six went under the total.

Battle at the Pitching Mound

Right hander Jason Hammel is the scheduled KC starter.  He is a hapless 2-11 with a 6.16 earned run average.  Perhaps nobody else is more emblematic of today’s Royals.  Right hander Aaron Slegers is slated to take the hill for Minnesota.  He has a 2.38 ERA and 1-0 record.  Slegers has pitched just 11 innings this year.

Matchup to Watch

Minnesota has a recent baseball odds today home record of 7-3 against KC.  There is no reason to try and over think this matchup.  Minnesota is mediocre.  But the Royals are a wreck.  In fact, they are almost ’62 Mets bad.
