Wednesday baseball wagering features Washington Nationals superstar pitcher Stephen Strasburg on ESPN as the Nationals take on the Cincinnati Reds.
It is the third game of a four-game series between the Nationals and Reds and it should be a great pitching matchup in MLB wagering since Strasburg goes for the Nationals while Bronson Arroyo gets the start for Cincinnati. Strasburg is 4-2 on the season with a 2.03 ERA. He was excellent again in his last start when he shutout the Marlins in six innings, striking out seven. In his last three starts, Strasburg is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA. Normally when Strasburg is on the mound he is a big favorite but in this game on Wednesday the Nationals face a very strong Cincinnati team and a pitcher in Bronson Arroyo who has won 10 games this Baseball Wagering season.
Arroyo is 10-4 with a 3.96 ERA this season. He has won five of his last six starts overall. He is 3-0 in his last three starts with a 1.29 ERA. He is 3-1 in his career against the Nationals with a 3.16 ERA.
The Reds took two of three at Washington last month and two of the three games went under the total. Last season when the teams met in Cincinnati it were the Nationals winning three of the four games? Three of those games went under the total. This could be a pitcher’s duel as well since Strasburg and Arroyo are pitching very well lately.
Whenever Strasburg is on the mound the Nationals are worth a look. The problem with taking Washington in this game is two-fold. The Nationals have been terrible on the road all season. They simply don’t win very often on the road. The other problem is that Cincinnati is a very good home team.
This will be a good test for Strasburg since the Reds have the fifth best offense in the league. If he is able to hold down this offense then it could be a low scoring game on Wednesday. Arroyo is really pitching well of late and the Washington offense is simply not very good. The Nationals are just 26th in the league in runs scored per game. Washington doesn’t have good pitching overall, but Strasburg is an exception.
