Baseball bet wagers are popular during the hot summer months mainly because there is very little else for gamblers to wager on. MLB betting is also popular among professional gamblers because baseball is their moneymaking sport. Making a baseball bet is a little bit different than making a football or basketball wager, but it is still pretty easy to understand.
MLB bet wagers can sometimes look a bit complicated in the beginning but it is very easy to understand once you know what you are looking at. The main thing to remember is that all you care about is your team winning the game. There are no point spreads involved. Let’s take an example so you know exactly what you are looking for when it comes to making a MLB bet.
Let’s say we have the Yankees hosting the Red Sox. Mike Mussina is pitching for the Yankees and Curt Schilling for the Red Sox. The baseball bet line will list both starting pitchers and look like this:
Boston Schilling +100
New York Mussina -120 9 under
If you were going to make a baseball bet on the Red Sox in this game you would win $100 for every $100 you wagered if Boston won the game. On a smaller scale it would be $10 for every $10 on your baseball bet. If you wanted the Yankees you would have to risk $120 for every $100 you wanted to win on N.Y. or the $12 to $10 equivalent on your baseball bet. The total in this baseball betting example is 9 under. That means if you want the under you lay $120 for every $100 you want to win, and if you like the over you get even money, or 100 for every 100 risked. You will also notice in this MLB betting example that there is a $20 dollar difference on both the side and the total. That is what is referred to as a 20-cent line in baseball betting.
As you make a baseball bet you only have to worry about winning the game. There are no pointspreads to consider. Sometimes you will see a run line associated with the game but that is a separate baseball bet and one that many people don’t play unless the game is high priced. When it comes to making a baseball bet you have the side wager, the total wager, and the run line wager. Most people just deal with the side wager and that means all you have to worry about is your team winning the game.
