Bet on Baseball – Rockies Suffer Major Injury

Bet on Baseball – Rockies Suffer Major Injury and Fans are Down.  The Toronto Blue Jays will try and get back to the .500 mark as they host the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night and oddsmakers who set the line for gamblers who bet on baseball are favoring Toronto.  It may not get much better for the Rockies vs. the baseball betting odds at Sbg global as they suffered a major injury on Tuesday losing starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa for the rest of the season.

De La Rosa Injury
The Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery. That means he will miss at least the rest of this season.  It is not the end of De La Rosa’s career as many other pitchers including Josh Johnson and Chris Carpenter have come back after having Tommy John surgery.

Huge Loss
Many of the Colorado players called De La Rosa their co-ace along with Jhoulys Chacin.  The Rockies will have to hope that Ubaldo Jimenez gets back to his form of last year. So far this season Jimenez has struggled so De La Rosa and Chacin have been the top pitchers on the Rockies. De La Rosa won 16 games just two years ago and is considered one of the best left-handed starting pitchers by gamblers who bet on baseball. He was 5-2 this season with a 3.51 ERA.  De La Rosa missed 13 starts last year with a tendon pulley tear in his left middle finger and the Rockies had no answers for a replacement as they went 4-9 in the starts he missed.

Rockies Rotation
The Colorado starting rotation does not look nearly as good without De La Rosa. They badly need Jimenez to pitch like the staff ace.  They still have Chacin who has been very good and they have had good starts so far from Clayton Mortensen. The other two starters have been Jason Hammel and Greg Reynolds. It could be that Aaron Cook gets back into the rotation as he is coming off the 60-day disabled list. Cook struggled last season as he went 6-8 with a 5.08 ERA but he does have the most wins in franchise history.

Upcoming Games
The Rockies have to face a good hitting St. Louis team this weekend in baseball betting but then they get a break as they face the Dodgers, the Giants and Padres in the next 16 games. None of those three teams are hitting so Colorado may be able to survive without strong starting pitching. They will need to do something at the trading deadline though if they expect to make the playoffs.
