Brewers +1½ (-190) 9 (-105) +113
Pirates -1½ (+165) 9 (-115) -123

Milwaukee Brewers (52-42)

On the mound: Brent Suter (LHP, 1-1, 2.96 ERA, 25 K) allowed the Yankees two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings on July 8th. Suter did not give up a run to Milwaukee in 5 1/3 innings of relief in 2016. This will be his fourth start subbing for the injured Chase Anderson.

Miscellanea: The Beersmen find themselves playing 14 of 17 road games. Their only home stand was a three-game set versus Philly over the weekend. Milwaukee is tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second-best road record in the NL behind Washington.

‘Especially with what’s ahead of us with this 10-game road trip, a tough road trip, continuing that momentum is important for us,
‘manager Craig Counsell said. “Getting some wins and feeling good about it, everybody is doing their job, that’s what is going on.”

Trends for fans who bet on baseball: The Beermakers have won and covered in four of their last five road games. The MLB betting total has gone under in that same period.

Pittsburgh Pirates (44-48)

On the mound: Chad Kuhl (RHP, 3-6, 4.96 ERA, 69 K) had to pull off three innings of emergency duty only two days after pitching a career-high seven innings on July 6th. Kuhl has thrown twice versus Milwaukee this season. He allowed them no runs in three innings before a rain delay ended a brief appearance on May 5th in Pittsburgh. He also picked up a win there on June 20th, surrendering two runs in five innings and matching his season-best for strikeouts (6).

Miscellanea: “We don’t want to undersell, we also don’t want to oversell, what this four-game series with the Brewers means,” general manager Neal Huntington said. “Every game’s important for us, not only between now and the Deadline, but as we get beyond the Deadline, every game matters. And that’s one of the things that we need to move forward with. Obviously, an 0-4 [series] changes the dynamic pretty significantly. We go 4-0; it changes the dynamic in a much more positive direction.” Suspended left fielder Starling Marta’s rehab assignment ended on Sunday and he is expected to rejoin the Bucs and work out at PNC Park on Monday before his activation on Tuesday. “He can’t be in uniform and he can’t be in the dugout or bullpen,” Huntington said. “He can be here and he can work out. He just can’t be in uniform with the club when we’re in our normal workout.”

Trends for fans who bet on baseball: The Pirates are 4-1 straight-up and against the spread in their last five games. The MLB betting total has gone under in two thirds of the Bucs’ last nine games versus the Brewers.
