Colorado’s Ubaldo Jimenez will be going for his 18th win of the season on Tuesday as the Rockies are favored at the home of the Mets in MLB betting. Jimenez is 17-2 on the season with a 2.61 ERA. The Rockies have played better of late and they are favored with Jimenez in baseball betting odds at New York.
MLB betting numbers definitely point to the Rockies in this contest. Jimenez has pitched well after have a few poor starts after the All-Star break. He struck out nine and allowed just one run last time out. He has pitched well in his career against the Mets going 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA.
The Mets are falling out of the playoff race and they need a very good homestand to get things going in the right direction. This is the first game of a three-game series and it is the first game of a six-game homestand for the Mets.
The Mets have won 11 of the last 20 games against the Rockies although the teams have not played since April. The Rockies took two of three from the Mets in Colorado in that series. Two of those three games went over the total. Last season when the teams played in New York it was the Mets winning three of four. Three of those four games went under the total.
If the Rockies are going to make a run in the National League West they are going to have to start winning on the road. They have just been awful away from Coors Field. The Rockies also need to get better pitching away from home. That should not be an issue in this game since Jimenez is on the mound.
The Mets have been very good at home this season going 33-19. The problem is that they have struggled on the road. It might already be too late for the Mets in terms of the playoff race. The New York offense simply does not put up enough runs on a consistent basis. They are well below average and even though their pitching is in the top 10 in the league they don’t score enough to win on a regular basis. They don’t figure to get many on Tuesday night against Jimenez.
