Betting Major League Baseball for some people is all about the Chicago Cubs. No matter how good or bad the Cubs are, people still love to bet them. The Cubs continue to attract support in MLB props and futures even in Spring Training. Betting Major League Baseball with the Cubs has not been very successful through the years. The Cubs always get respect on the odds board but they simply don’t win the World Series. The Cubs are 16-1 to win the World Series this year.
The Cubs host the San Diego Padres in Cactus League action on Saturday in a game that can be seen on WGN. Chicago will again be favored in MLB props and futures in this game. The Cubs are dealing with some issues in spring training including who will be their fourth and fifth starters. Tom Gorzelanny is in the mix for that last spot as is Sean Marshall. Manager Lou Piniella wants at least one left-hander in the rotation so either Gorzelanny or Marshall is going to get a spot until Ted Lilly returns from injury. Last season Marshall was 2-5 with a 5.24 ERA in nine games as a starter. As a reliever, he was 1-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 46 games. The other two pitchers in the mix for a spot in the rotation are Carlos Silva and Jeff Samardzija.
The Padres are not given much of a chance this season in the National League West by those betting Major League Baseball but they can still win some games. It would help if they get a good year from Scott Hairston who needs to provide some support for Adrian Gonzalez in the San Diego lineup. Hairston came over in the deal that send Kevin Kouzmanoff to the Oakland A’s. Hairston missed 12 games this spring because of an injury but he is back now. “It did take longer than I thought it would,” Hairston said. “It was all new to me. I have fouled balls off my calf and my shin before. This was just one of those things where the swelling wouldn’t go down. I didn’t want to rush myself back and do something that would jeopardize the regular season. I wanted to take my time and make sure I was right.” Hairston could get time in center field and right field this season for the Padres.
