The San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres on Sunday while the Atlanta Braves just got past the Philadelphia Phillies against the MLB betting odds and both teams advanced to the playoffs. The Giants won the National League West while the Braves got the Wild Card. The San Diego Padres were the team left out in the cold in baseball betting after losing 3-0 on Sunday.
The Giants will open up at home against the Braves while the Phillies will host the Cincinnati Reds. The Giants get some extra rest since they will not play Game 1 against the Braves until Thursday. The Phillies and Reds play their first game on Wednesday. The Phillies are a solid favorite to win the National League pennant and they are heavily favored to dispose of the Reds in short order. The Phillies have a potent trio of Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels and they simply have more pitching and hitting than Cincinnati. The Reds were a nice story but their season should end against the Phillies. The Giants have the pitching edge against Atlanta but the hitting is pretty even. San Francisco has the home field edge though and that is why they are favored against the Braves.
Last Day Drama – The last day of the regular season had some drama in both leagues but particularly in the National League. The American League was just a matter of whether the Rays or Yankees won the division since both teams had already clinched playoff spots. The National League was up for grabs as the Giants, Braves and Padres battled for the last two spots. The Giants beat the Padres 3-0 on Sunday to win the National League West and the Braves survived 8-7 against the Phillies to win the Wild Card.
