MLB betting odds favor David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday as they host the Minnesota Twins. The Philadelphia Phillies are favored in MLB gambling on Friday in the opener of a key series against the New York Mets. Both teams are chasing the Atlanta Braves in the National League East and they really need to start making up some ground. The Mets have not played well on the road this season and they are underdogs in baseball gambling at Philadelphia.
MLB gambling numbers in this game don’t favor the Mets but the pitching matchup might. The Mets are going with Jon Niese who is 7-5 on the season with a 3.78 ERA. Niese has done well this season but he is coming off a poor start where he allowed seven runs. He is 1-1 in this last three starts with a 5.87 ERA. He has pitched well against the Phillies in the past with a 1.29 ERA.
Joe Blanton is 4-6 on the season with a 5.86 ERA. He has not pitched nearly as well for the Phillies this season as he did a year ago. He is 1-1 in his last three starts with a 4.26 ERA. He has done well in his career against the Mets going 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA.
One of the reasons that the Mets are really not in the playoff picture anymore is because of the road woes. The Mets have struggled all season away from Citi Field. It may already be too late for the Mets as they are well behind the Braves in the division. The hitting for New York has simply not been good enough. The Mets are in the bottom third of the league in runs scored. Their pitching has been decent as they are in the top 10 in the league in ERA but it has not made up for the lack of offense.
The Phillies are in the race in the National League East and they are expected to really challenge the Braves for the title. When healthy they have a solid lineup that can produce runs and their pitching staff has a very good trio of Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels. If they could get Blanton going they would really be in good shape. He is capable of being a solid starter and he may have some success in this baseball gambling contest against a weak hitting New York lineup.
