The Sunday night game on ESPN favors the Philadelphia Phillies in baseball futures even though they are on the road at Milwaukee. The Phillies have traditionally been a good team on the road in baseball betting while Milwaukee has been horrible at home. Baseball futures probably won’t favor the Phillies by much on Sunday but they will probably still get action from gamblers. The Brewers are scheduled to send Doug Davis to the mound and he has been terrible so far this season. He is 1-4 with a bloated ERA of 7.56. Davis actually pitched well for a while in his last start against the Braves. He trailing only 1-0 entering the sixth inning but then he imploded thanks to some wildness and a Rickie Weeks error. Davis has done okay in his career against the Phillies with a 3.71 ERA. He has not been able to handle Ryan Howard though as the Phillies first baseman is 3 for 8 against him with two home runs.
Before this series began the Phillies and Brewers had split their last ten meetings. The last series between the teams in Milwaukee was last September when the teams split the four game series. One thing about that series is that it was very high scoring. All four games went over the baseball betting total. In fact, the teams combined to score 48 runs in the four games.
The Phillies have some injury concerns as closer Brad Lidge has a stiff right elbow while shortstop Jimmy Rollins is on a rehab assignment. The Phillies are considering placing Lidge on the DL. Rollins has been on the DL but he is getting closer to returning. He went 3-for-6 with two doubles Wednesday in an extended spring game in Bradenton, Florida. The Phillies are hoping that they can get Rollins back into the lineup later this month.
The Phillies have been in the Top 10 in both runs scored and fewest runs allowed this season. Ranking in the Top 10 in both offense and defense is the mark of a good team and there is no question that the Phillies are a popular team in baseball futures.
The Brewers have been able to hit as they are in the Top 5 in the league in runs scored but their pitching has been awful as they rank near the bottom of the league.
