The Philadelphia Phillies will try and put even more distance between themselves and the Atlanta Braves when the teams meet on Monday in MLB betting. The Phillies have taken control of the National League East and they could pretty much end the division race if they sweep the Braves in this baseball betting series. Phillies Pitching – The Phillies have a dominant trio of Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels and it is Hamels who is scheduled to get the start on Monday night. There has not been a better pitcher in baseball in his last three starts than Hamels. Do you know how good he has been? He is 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA in his last three starts. He looks like the Hamels of a few years ago when the Phillies won the World Series. He has allowed just one run in his last 31 1/3 innings. He is 5-3 in his last 13 starts with a 1.79 ERA. He struck out 13 in his last start against the Marlins. Do we need to say any more?
Atlanta Starting Pitcher – Jair Jurrjens gets the start for Atlanta on Monday. He really hasn’t been very good this season. He is just 7-6 with a 4.64 ERA. Every once in a while he will pitch a good game but he has been shelled the last two times out. He has given up 11 earned runs in 8 2/3 innings and allowed 19 hits. His ERA in his last three starts is 6.32.
Career Numbers – Hamels is 8-5 in his career against the Braves with a 4.25 ERA. Jurrjens is 3-3 in his career against the Braves but he does have a solid ERA of 2.56.
The Phillies are the favorites in MLB betting on Monday at the Sbg sportsbook and the pitching matchup is really in their favor. If Hamels pitches like he has recently then the Phillies are a very solid pick in this game. The Braves and Phillies have actually split their last ten meetings. They haven’t met since July when the Braves won two of three at Philadelphia. Two of those three games went over the total. If the Braves are going to make a run at the Phillies for the division title they really need to win two of three in this series.
