The Boston Red Sox put pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on the disabled list on Monday and he won’t be returning to the rotation anytime soon. Matsuzaka had an MRI that revealed no structural damage but his arm is definitely weak and the Red Sox are sending him to their spring training complex in Florida. Baseball betting statistics show that Matsuzaka is 1-5 with an 8.23 ERA in eight starts this season.
Baseball betting information tells us that it is possible that Matsuzaka could be done for the season. “This is not going to be a two-week DL,” manager Terry Francona said. “We’re going to have to figure this out. We have a lot of work ahead of us trying to get him back to being Daisuke. He was already with John Farrell this morning looking over video, which is good. We’ll try to do what’s in his best interest, and to be honest, I think we’re still trying to figure that out.”
Francona has said that the World Baseball Classic really took a lot out of Matsuzaka and that he was not properly prepared to pitch for the regular season. “We never were really able to get that foundation, and he’s alluded to that, too,” Francona said. “He knows he pitched before he was ready to. There’s no getting around that. I don’t know how you can. You just hope it doesn’t affect your guys. He was pitching in these games trying to get outs before he was ready to do that.”
Baseball betting information shows that Matsuzaka really didn’t have much to say about the decision but seemed to agree with it. “It was partly the club’s decision. I also felt I couldn’t keep going the way I was going, so they had to make changes,” Matsuzaka said through an interpreter. “I thought that, if I keep going like this, I was going to be a burden to this team.”
Boston is a hugely popular team in baseball betting odds at the sportsbook and they have a lot of influence in Major League Baseball. They may have something to say about the future of the World Baseball Classic considering it cost them one of their best pitchers.
Boston has a lot of talent and will still be favored in baseball betting odds at the online sportsbook without Matsuzaka. They are also expecting John Smoltz to fill Matsuzaka’s spot in the rotation and Smoltz would get a lot of respect from the baseball betting oddsmakers.
