The Boston Red Sox put All-Star starting pitcher Tim Wakefield on the disabled list on Tuesday after the pitcher tweaked his lower back. To take Wakefield’s spot in the baseball betting rotation the team recalled Clay Buchholz, who started last Friday in Toronto. “We wanted to give (Wakefield) a couple of days to see if it would go away so he could pitch tomorrow, and it looks like it was kind of going the other way,” manager Terry Francona said. “He’s a little bit more tender. We’ll talk to the medical people back in Boston and see what the next step is.”
The Red Sox have scuffled of late in baseball betting at the sports book, falling out of first place in the American League East so the injury to Wakefield has not come at a good time. Wakefield is not even sure how he got hurt. “I don’t know how it came on,” Wakefield said. “I felt a little twinge on Friday on my way to Toronto, and I had a lot of work to do that day – threw a simulated game. I felt fine, but just afterwards it just tightened up on me. I was trying to make it get better. I’ve been getting treatment every day. It just doesn’t seem to be going away right now. The smart thing to do team-wise is to DL me and make sure I’m healthy.” Baseball betting information tells us that Wakefield feels he will be ready to start when he comes off the DL on August 2nd which just happens to be his 43rd birthday.
Baseball bet information tells us that the Red Sox feel pretty good with Buchholz coming up to take Wakefield’s spot. “As an organization,” Francona said, “I think we’re pretty fortunate that something like this can happen and we can have a guy like Clay ready to pitch.” Buchholz is also happy to have the chance. “Any day in the big leagues is better than a day in the minors,” said Buchholz “I’m happy to be here again, and I’ll go after it tomorrow and see what happens. I was pretty nervous about (Friday), but now I’ve got that one under my belt, and (I’ll try) to command the zone just like last time.”
The Red Sox are still considered one of the favorites in baseball betting to win this year’s World Series. They are one of the favorites along with the Yankees and Phillies in baseball bet odds at the sportsbook.
