Two bitter rivals play the first game of a brief two-game MLB betting series on Monday in a game that can be seen on ESPN. The Red Sox are likely to go with Daisuke Matsuzaka in this matchup while it could be the red-hot Phil Hughes for New York. Regardless of who starts for the Yankees they will be the baseball betting favorite. MLB betting favors the Yankees on a regular basis in their home games and for good reason. New York has been extremely good at home this season and they have owned the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium winning the last seven games. This will be the first game between the two teams this season in New York.
The Red Sox would like to see another good start from Matsuzaka. He was excellent last time out against Toronto as he allowed just three hits and one run. Even more important was that he walked none and struck out nine. Last year at Yankee Stadium, Matsuzaka pitched well as he gave up six hits and one runs in seven innings but he suffered the loss. He is 3-3 with a 5.49 ERA in seven career starts vs. the Yankees.
The Red Sox may get a boost to their lineup in this baseball betting series as center fielder Mike Cameron is set to return. He is hoping to play in this game on Monday. “That’s what we’re shooting for,” said Cameron. “That’s kind of a tentative idea. Basically it will depend on how my body goes. And on top of that, just playing the game, running around, diving, going first to third. We’ll see. That’s the tentative plan, but we just have to see how the body responds. So far it’s been good.” Cameron has been out since April 19th with a lower abdominal strain. The Red Sox have had issues in center field since Jacoby Ellsbury has been out. He is set to start a rehab assignment this week.
New York has won 13 of the last 20 games against Boston in MLB betting. The teams have already played two series this season in Boston and the Yankees have taken four of the six in MLB betting. Five of those six games went over the total. At New York, five of the last seven games between the two teams have gone under the baseball betting total.
