MLB betting fans of the San Diego Padres suffered through a rotten season in 2008. Anyone that bet on MLB success for the team suffered greatly as the team went on to compile the second worst record (63-99) record in MLB betting. But the 2009 MLB betting season is a new day and with any luck the Padre’s will improve on the shame of the ’08 bet on MLB campaign.
MLB betting off-season trades and activity have had a major impact on San Diego Padres as the team has tried to cut payroll and move in a new direction during the economic downturn. The biggest MLB betting off-season move was unloading of all time MLB betting saves leader Trevor Hoffman. Trying to replace the legend in the upcoming bet on MLB season will be RHP Heath Bell who had 0 saves and a 3.58 ERA in the ’08 MLB batting season. He’s got huge shoes to fill and little in his pitching history to suggest he’ll be up to such a major bet on MLB task.
The starting rotation is also full of question marks and aside from Ace Trevor Hoffman, no spot is locked up. Chris Young and Cha Saeyung Baek are penciled in as the two and three starters in the MLB betting rotation but with 13 wins between them in the ’08 MLB betting season there’s not a lot to be hopeful about. Mark Prior is penciled in as the fourth starter but it’s been years since he was productive in a MLB betting season.
At the plate the team doesn’t fare all that much better. The team’s two best hitters Brian Giles and Adrian Gonzales are back, which is a MLB betting bright spot, but there’s little else in the lineup to frighten opposing pitchers. Giles batted .306 last MLB betting season and Gonzales belted 36 HR, however without much protection in the lineup he’s not likely to repeat those numbers in the upcoming MLB betting season.
Run production could be a big problem for the team in the 2009 MLB betting season as there are no real deep threats or RBI threats outside of Gonzales and perhaps Kevin Kousmanoff who had a decent season in the 2008 MLB betting. With weak starting pitching, an unproven closer and soft hitting lineup the Padres looked destined for another last place finish in the NL West MLB betting competition.
