Sluggish Mets Baseball Betting Games Sunday Dog at Yankees

New York Mets vs. New York Yankees Sunday, July 22, 2018

Initially the Mets were a top baseball betting games surprise.  In fact, April had fans and gamblers thinking they could be a top dark horse contender.  Consequently, new manager Mickey Callaway was celebrated as the much-needed breath of fresh air.  But reality soon set in for New York.  Indeed, it has been borne out that this is a bad baseball team.  And one with no real prospects of success going forward.  Meanwhile the Yankees also began 2018 with a new manager.  Conversely things have gone far better for Aaron Boone than his Mets counterpart.

New York Mets vs. New York Yankees TV Coverage: ESPN

New York Yankees

Definitely the Yankees have played solid ball for Aaron Boone.  Up against that is that the rival Red Sox have been even better.  For instance, Boston leads the American League East.  In particular they lead the second place Bronx Bombers by 4.5 games.  Yet New York is an attractive team for baseball betting games. To illustrate few teams have shown greater balance.  Nor a more complete ability to win games in many different ways.  As a matter of fact, few MLB teams have been as profitable.  And Yankee Stadium has proven to be a cash cow in 2018.

New York Mets

New York has a sportsbook record of 33-13 at home.  Up against that is a Mets road record of 20-23.  Additionally, the Mets have gushed more red ink than almost any other team.  Further they have been sluggish lately.  To illustrate Mickey Callaway’s team has lost six of their last ten.    It follows that this would be so.  Few clubs have worse metrics than the Mets.

Important Stats for Mets Fans

Starting with an offense that ranks 28th for run production the Mets are immediately handicapped.   Next is a team batting average that ranks 29th in the big leagues.  Just as disappointing is a 26th place OPS.  Additionally, the Mets are a weak 23rd for home runs.  In sum this is an unappealing look.  Alternatively, Callaway’s team is almost as bad on the hill.  New York ranks 18th in the big leagues for earned run average.  While the bullpen is a horrific 26th in MLB for ERA.  Overall there is just not much gamblers can cling to here.

Team vs. Team

Definitely the Yankees have the home edge over their National League crosstown rivals.  Consider the Bronx Bombers are 10-6 at home against the Mets.  Just two of the last nine in this series at Yankee Stadium have gone under.

Pitcher’s Mound

Now for this one right hander Jacob deGrom will get the start of the Mets.  Presently he has a record of 5-4 with a 1.68 earned run average.  Admittedly no other pitcher would give the Mets a better chance.  Otherwise they’d be hopeless with anyone else on the hill.  Counter to deGrom is right hand starter Masahiro Tanaka of the Yankees.  Currently Tanaka has a 7-2 record with a 4.54 ERA.

Matchup to Watch

Granted, deGrom merits consideration for baseball betting games.  But the Mets bullpen and lineup undermine him.  Therefore, the Yankees offer more overall.

Mets vs. Yankees MLB Betting Odds Picks

Summing up the Yankees have too much for the Mets.  As a result, they rate the call.
