World Baseball Classic betting begins on Thursday, March 5th with defending champion Japan in action. Japan is not the favorite in World Baseball Classic odds but they could be a great pick. World Baseball betting odds list the Dominican Republic as the favorite to win the title. The United States is the second choice with Japan a 4-1 third choice in World Baseball odds. Let’s look at the chances of each of the 16 teams and make some World Baseball betting picks.Let’s start with throwing out teams with no chance. South Africa and Australia are 250-1 in World Baseball Classic betting and have no chance to win. China is 200-1 and the Netherlands is 150-1 and neither of these teams has a chance in World Baseball Classic betting.
Other teams with very little chance in World Baseball betting include Canada at 100-1, Italy at 80-1 and Chinese Taipei at 50-1. Panama also has really no chance in World Baseball betting even though they are listed at 30-1.
Now let’s look at the serious contenders and the live longshots in World Baseball Classic betting. The favorite in World Baseball odds is the Dominican Republic. They are about 8-5 in World Baseball Classic odds followed by the United States at 2-1 and Japan at 4-1. There is absolutely no value in the Dominican team with those odds. The Dominican team might not even have Alex Rodriguez and their pitching just simply isn’t that good. They have a great lineup but pitching is what wins. The U.S. has solid pitching and probably should be the favorite, but at 2-1 in World Baseball betting there is not a whole lot of value with the United States. Defending champs Japan have excellent value at 4-1 and are an excellent WBC pick.
Cuba is 7-1, Venezuela is 10-1; Puerto Rico is 15-1 while Korea and Mexico are 20-1. Korea has experience but their roster doesn’t matchup with the top teams in the WBC while Puerto Rico has a similar problem. Mexico is an interesting choice at 20-1 in World Baseball betting as they have some experience and some talented players. Cuba is the unknown at 7-1 since not much is known about their players. Venezuela is the longshot pick at 10-1 in World Baseball betting. They have a solid lineup and perhaps enough pitching to make some noise.
