Yankees Take the Point for 2025 American League Pennant

For the first time since 2009, the New York Yankees beat the baseball betting odds for the American League pennant. And with one of the highest payrolls in Major League Baseball, the Yankees figure to be in the hunt for another pennant. At least, that is how the betting public sees it in the future market. At the onset of spring training preparation, the Yankees are the favorite to win the American League title for the second consecutive season. But the other perennial contender, the Houston Astros, is a legitimate second pick for the betting public.

New York Yankees

Initially, the Yankees actually went up in most power sportsbook rankings. Despite losing Juan Soto. Certainly, that’s because they were awfully aggressive following Soto’s departure. To show, New York added Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, Devin Williams, and Paul Goldschmidt. Equally important, they may still not be done. Of course, the lineup will miss Soto, as any lineup would. But the Yankees sure have addressed many holes. And they have the third-ranked payroll in the sport.

Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles added a veteran workhorse arm to their rotation mix. Namely, Baltimore inked Charlie Morton to a one-year contract. In turn, the Orioles lost one in Corbin Burnes, leading to some real frustration among the fanbase. Still, there’s so much talent here, with more coming up from the farm system every year. The Orioles will remain a force to be reckoned with in 2025. But it won’t matter if they fizzle in October again.

Houston Astros

Gamblers might have expected a more precipitous drop for the Astros after they traded Kyle Tucker. Additionally, Houston has probably moved on from free agent Alex Bregman. But adding Isaac Paredes in the Tucker deal and Christian Walker via free agency does provide some muscle. On the whole, this remains a team that has won division titles in each of the past seven full seasons. We’ll see how long they can keep this up, but they’re still the top AL West team in these rankings.

Detroit Tigers

Overall, Tigers fans were thrilled by their late season run and postseason trip. Thus, they might have been hoping for a little bit more than just Gleyber Torres and Alex Cobb in their New Year’s gift bag. However, there’s still some time left in this offseason. One thing’s clear: This is the most MLB odds hope Tigers fans have felt heading into a season in quite a while.

Kansas City Royals

The addition of Jonathan India to last year’s playoff team wasn’t enough to instill all that much confidence in the voters. Still, the Royals could use a bat or two. Otherwise, is it realistic to ask Bobby Witt Jr. to do it all himself again? Kansas City may be in that spot.

Boston Red Sox

It is true that the Red Sox haven’t exactly taken the Hot Stove by storm the way many thought (and hoped) they would. But they’ve definitely helped out their rotation with the additions of Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler. Will they add to the lineup? If they’re going to compete with the big dogs of the AL East, they may have to.
