Namely, Bruce Pearl has brought a lot of notoriety to the Tigers basketball program they never had before. Pearl has turned War Eagle into a national brand for College Basketball odds as a perennial NCAA Tournament contender. And with that increase in brand awareness has come to a decrease in wagering value. Thus, too many squares have become enthralled with Auburn. This week Auburn faces another SEC program that has turned its brand around. The Arkansas Razorbacks will make for a marquee matchup against Auburn.

2022-23 Auburn Tigers Preview
Once upon a time, Charles Barkley summed up the historical context of the Tigers basketball program. When he was an aspiring recruit in the early 1980s, Barkley said he chose Auburn because they were so bad he could immediately play. Thanks to Bruce Pearl, those days are over. In the 2022-23 season, the Tigers will look to make their way back to the top of the heap. Following a disappointing finish to one of the most promising seasons in program history.
In 2021-22, Auburn was ranked No. 1 for the first time. The Tigers won the SEC regular-season title for the 3rd time in five years. But they stumbled in the NCAABB betting postseason. Tigerslost the first game of the SEC Tournament. And then they bowed out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round. Auburn finished the season 28-6 and ranked No. 8. The Tigers begin that climb back to the top with Bruce Pearl starting his 9th season as the Tigers’ head coach.
Pearl must replace a pair of NBA 1st-round picks. Finding a scorer to replace the 16.9 points a game that Jabari Smith provided before going to the pros will be difficult. In like manner, the national defensive player of the year, Walker Kessler’s production, will be missed. Kessler had an 11.4 scoring average, team-leading rebounds (8.1), and blocks (4.6).
First, Pearl brought in Morehead State transfer Johni Broome and 5-star recruit Yohan Traore, both 6-foot-10 forwards. The 235-pound Broome averaged a double-double last season, with 16.8 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. As a result, he was the Ohio Valley Conference defensive player of the year. Traore, a 225-pounder from France, was a highly sought-after recruit from Arizona.
Auburn’s backcourt has a chance to be much improved with experience. Juniors K.D. Johnson and Wendell Green Jr. return to help run the show. Also, Zep Jasper is in a supporting role. Green led the team with 5.1 assists a game and averaged 12 points. In comparison, Johnson is the top returning scorer (12.3 ppg) and led in steals (1.9).
