Following a hot start to the season Virginia Tech has cooled off considerably. Most of their early profits have been given back in recent games. Along the same lines Virginia is not quite the same NCAA basketball championship odds favorite that they were last month. Starting with the lack of a reliable offense the Cavaliers are also surrendering early profits. Despite their relative woes there is no doubt that the Cavaliers and Hokies will be primed for Monday’s intrastate showdown. Indeed, it is a mutual opportunity to get back on track for upcoming tournament time.

Virginia Tech Hokies
Late results have been a turn off with gamblers in regards to Virginia Tech. Just three payouts in their last ten games has not inspired confidence on the Hokies. Three of Tech’s last five games have gone under the total. National rankings have VT ranked 115th for scoring offense but seventh for points allowed. Owing to that is a record of 18-5 straight up, 12-10 vs. the odds, and 10-11-1 under the total. The Hokies have fallen to sixth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Nickeil Alexander Walker leads with 17.3 points per game.
Virginia Cavaliers
Counter to Tech the Cavaliers have paid in seven of their last ten games. Four of their last six games have gone under the total. Virginia ranks only 18th for scoring offense but best in the land for points allowed. As a result, the Cavs are 21-2 straight up, 17-6 against the spread, and 10-13 under the total. UVA trails Duke for the top spot in the ACC. Kyle Guy and De’Andre Hunter are both over 14 points per game.
Stats to Consider
Virginia Tech has not been a reliable play at Cassell Coliseum in recent games. In fact, the Hokies have paid in just four of their last nine home games. Four of their last five home court matchups went over the total. Counter to that is Virginia’s strong value on the road. Away from home the Cavs look like a favorite with the NCAA basketball championship odds. UVA has paid in 17 of their last 20 road matchups. And 13 of their last 18 away tilts stayed under the total.
Team vs. Team
Late on Virginia has had the online wagering advantage with Virginia Tech. To illustrate the Cavaliers have covered four of their last six games with the Hokies. Four of those six games stayed under the total. But at Cassell Coliseum Virginia Tech has ruled the cashier’s cage. Head coach Buzz Williams’s team has paid in four of their last five home court tilts with Virginia. Three of the last five in this series at VA Tech stayed under the total.
Matchup to Watch
Virginia’s road results make them a strong NCAA basketball championship odds play. It follows that Virginia Tech’s recent drop off in value doesn’t bode well for this matchup.
