College basketball betting on ESPN’s Big Monday has West Virginia hosting Georgetown. It is a quick turnaround for both teams as West Virginia beat Cincinnati on Saturday while Georgetown lost at home to Notre Dame. Those that bet on college basketball will probably lean to the Mountaineers in this game simply because they are at home.
College basketball betting has not seen either of these teams cover the spread on a regular basis. The Hoyas are just a game over .500 vs. the pointspread this season while West Virginia is below the break even mark. The team that wins this game on Monday could be the one that is in better condition since they both will be weary. “We’ve prepared for stretches like this,” West Virginia point guard Joe Mazzulla said, “That’s where the three-hour practices come in and the mental aspect and the things Huggs demands from us.” West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins almost always has his teams ready to play but in their two previous Big Monday games, the Mountaineers lost to Villanova and Connecticut. “Everybody wants to do it,” Huggins said, “But then you do it and it’s hard.”
This college basketball betting game is really important since the winner may get a double-bye in the Big East tournament next week. “It’s hard. It’s hard for both teams,” Huggins said. “But the trade-off is the national exposure you get and the national exposure your league gets. It helps everything.”
Georgetown does not have good numbers in Monday games either. The Hoyas are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Monday games. Georgetown has really struggled this season in the conference and their Big East numbers are poor. They are 10-24 vs. the college basketball betting odds in their last 34 games vs. the Big East.
The last four Georgetown road games have gone under the college basketball betting total. Five of the last seven West Virginia games have gone over the total. In this series though, three of the last four at West Virginia have stayed under.
One thing to keep an eye on as you bet on college basketball with this game on Monday is the health of Georgetown’s Austin Freeman. He played with the flu on Saturday and he struggled and the team lost. For Georgetown to win at West Virginia on Monday they will need him at full strength.
