The Indiana Hoosiers are a probable NCAA Tournament team. And the Hoosiers have shown more balance than most teams in college basketball. But against the best teams on their schedule. High-profile losses to the Arizona Wildcats and Kansas Jayhawks are good examples. Coach Mike Woodson has elevated the Indiana recruiting profile. But this program remains a work in progress. Last week Indiana suffered a tough College Basketball odds loss at the Iowa Hawkeyes. Carver-Hawkeye Arena again proved to be one of the nation’s toughest venues.

2022-23 Indiana Hoosiers Team Analysis
Last year Mike Woodson led Indiana Basketball to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2016 when they reached the Sweet Sixteen. It was his first year on the job. Indiana beat Wyoming in the first four but was blown out by Saint Mary’s in the first round. At the onset of the season, the Hoosiers are in a unique situation. First, they were hit by four transfers who started for the team over the last two seasons. Namely, Rob Phinisee in 2021 and Parker Stewart last season. Besides those two, they return everyone who saw the court for ten or more minutes per game. Including seniors Xavier Johnson and Trayce Jackson-Davis. Both led the Hoosiers in every major offensive statistical category last season.
So Indiana returns seven of its top nine scorers from their NCAABB betting tournament team. But Mike Woodson also signed a recruiting class that ranked 9th in the country.
CJ Gunn is a three-star shooting guard from Indianapolis. But three top-100 recruits lead the class. Kaleb Banks and Malik Reneau are a pair of 6’8 power forwards who will make a formidable frontcourt trio with Jackson-Davis. Meanwhile, Jalen Hood-Schifino is a guard from Montverde Academy. He was ranked 23rd nationally and will make an immediate impact on Indiana. Despite going just 5-9 over the last two months season, they reached the postseason. Specifically, the return of Jackson-Davis has expectations for this season in Bloomington. The Hoosiers have never won the Big Ten tournament and only made the finals in 2001.
Last season, the Hoosiers were known for two things. IU boasted one of the country’s best defenses and length all over the floor. Spearheading the defense will be senior forwards Race Thompson and Trayce Jackson Davis. Davis returns to Bloomington somewhat surprisingly after flirting with the NBA. Thompson and Jackson-Davis are the team’s top two scorers. In turn, they averaged over 29 points per game for an Indiana team that sometimes struggled to shoot the ball. IU was shooting 46% from the field and 34% from deep. The dynamic duo is also a menace on the boards, pulling down nearly 16.
