North Carolina Tar Heels Hard Road to the Final
The 2021-22 road to the Final Four was NOT easy for North Carolina. At the beginning of the season was a transition to a new head coach Hubert Davis. North Carolina failed to cover its first six games of the season. There were no dreams of an epic Final Four betting run at that time.
Davis had the tough assignment of replacing legendary Hall of Fame head coach Roy Williams. However, Davis did have the advantage of having played and coached at UNC. Davis was the top assistant to Williams and was grooved into his current position.
Midway through the season, North Carolina fans were screaming that Davis was the wrong man for the job. They were talking about a change after just one season. Cause by North Carolina’s tradition and history, their fans always demand championships. Thus, Davis had no grace period or honeymoon. He was thrown into the fire from day one. But as a Carolina guy, he could deal with that where outsiders likely could not.
Junior forward Armando Bacot leads North Carolina with 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per contest. Bacot has scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games. In the Final Four win over Duke, Bacot powered to 21 rebounds with 11 points. Bacot earned All-ACC honors this season.
