Last year, the UConn Huskies returned to College basketball betting glory with a stunning national championship. Head coach Dan Hurley has proven to be in the top-shelf class. Most important of all, his program will be in the running for the Final Four for years to come. But in 2023-24, UConn will be a big target for a vastly improved and competitive Big East Conference. Much of the Huskies’ hopes are lodged in Clingan’s foot. Correlate if he recovers promptly and entirely. There’s every reason to expect UConn to be in the mix again.

2023-24 Connecticut Huskies Basketball Outlook
Castle is a big part of the lofty sportsbook expectations. But do not forget about the returns of Alex Karaban and Tristen Newton. Also, Hurley picked up a red-hot shooter in Cam Spencer from Rutgers. Hurley will need some of his touted freshmen to jump in and add depth. But otherwise, there is not much to dislike about UConn.
Previously, things looked hopeless at UConn five seasons ago. Kevin Ollie had run his course as head coach of UConn Basketball. And he had the program trending in a terrible direction. Hence, the program turned toward Rhode Island head coach Dan Hurley.
Last season, UConn looked like the best program in the country at times. Especially early in the year. They caught fire again in the postseason. As a result, The Huskies claimed their fifth national championship in program history. Hurley authored a massive turnaround. Consider he inherited a program stuck in the AAC that couldn’t make the Big Dance and turned them into champions again.
Of course, coming off a national title, expectations are high at UConn again this season. The Huskies will surely miss Adama Sanogo and Jordan Hawkins, perhaps their two best players from last year’s title run. Additionally, they trimmed a few more names from the rotation. However, a few young players who started to emerge last year are back. Hurley has put new intriguing NCAABB betting pieces around them as well.
The preseason praise for these Huskies isn’t just a result of them cutting down the nets this past April. Concurrently, this version of UConn hoops could be just as successful. Gamblers are diving into what remains on this roster. At the same time, they are touching on the new faces, the schedule ahead, and some reasonable expectations for basketball at UConn.
Hurley worked his magic and has this program shining in a very strong Big East. However, what lies ahead in his sixth season at the helm?
College basketball can be a fickle sport, and things have gone UConn’s way more often than not in recent years. Last season was special, and the pieces that remain will do whatever they can to replicate that magic. Consider that UConn didn’t even win the Big East title last season. But they played their best ball when it mattered most in the NCAA Tournament.
Consider much of their success is going to depend on those sophomore bigs. Both Karaban and Clingan expected to take massive steps forward in their second collegiate seasons. To illuminate, they’ve both already shown their talent on the national stage. But an entire offseason to develop together could have lethal results for the rest of the Big East. This is one of the best frontcourts in the nation. At the same time, inexperience on the bench could be an issue later in the year.
