2024 Alabama Crimson Tide Preview
Alabama’s historic offshore betting success under Nick Saban meant that the expectations each season were essentially national championship or bust. Still, the bar is high. But expectations need to be kept in check for new coach Kalen DeBoer’s first season. DeBoer brings together a new coaching staff. Also, he has a turned-over roster that had almost 40 players leave through the transfer portal or for the NFL Draft. Alabama plays a tough schedule but still has enough talent to compete for a spot in the new 12-team College Football Playoff.
New head coach Kalen DeBoer will bring an offensive system to Alabama that was among college football’s most productive at Washington the past two seasons. DeBoer lost his longtime offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, to the NFL. But he replaced him with Nick Sheridan. Previously, Sheridan coached tight ends at Washington and previously led Indiana’s offense. Sheridan will call plays and try to adjust the scheme that made Michael Penix Jr. so successful.
That offense best fits the College Football Betting strengths of Tide incumbent Jalen Milroe. That could mean more deep shots and designed runs, taking advantage of Milroe’s athleticism and home-run ability.

Nick Saban’s defense was among the best in college football for the past 17 seasons. Now, Alabama must turn the page to a new defensive coordinator in Kane Wommack. Wommack stepped down as South Alabama’s head coach to rejoin DeBoer after they had previously worked together at Indiana.

The Alabama Crimson Tide is arguably the most successful program in college football history. Certainly, that is true in the modern era. Alabama has a total of 18 claimed and five unclaimed national championships. The Crimson Tide have NCAA records for 25 double-digit win seasons and 45 bowl victories. Also, the Tide holds the SEC record for 17 division championships and 15 appearances in the SEC championship game.
Alabama’s proud history extends to its head coaches. Namely, Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant, and Gene Stallings are firmly ensconced in the College Football Hall of Fame. Concurrently, head coach Nick Saban is a certain lock for induction immediately upon retirement. All of these coaches won national championships during their Alabama tenures.
