2024 Kentucky Wildcats Face Tough SEC and Increased Doubts

Head coach Mark Stoops has proven to be the perfect College Football Betting fit at Kentucky Wildcats. To show, by his posting the most wins and bowl games in program history. Stoops has led Kentucky to eight consecutive bowl games. Consider that is a result that was once considered unfathomable at a basketball-centric school. But Kentucky fans who were once desperate for a 6-6 bowl season are now demanding more. Big Blue Nation wants an SEC championship game appearance. Thus, it is frustrating that Stoops continues to fall short of the power programs of the SEC.

2024 Kentucky Wildcats Preview

Kentucky added weapons on both sides of the ball via the College Football Betting portal. Specifically, this season could come down to the trenches. The offensive line struggled in 2023, and aside from Deone Walker, how good can this defensive line be? New quarterback Brock Vandagriff needs adequate protection and lives up to his billing. If he gets it, the Wildcats can win eight or more games. But if he struggles with a challenging schedule, the Wildcats will have to fight to earn bowl eligibility.

Head coach Mark Stoops hired Bush Hamdan from Boise State to be the Wildcats offensive coordinator. Hamdan will have a former 5-star prospect and Georgia transfer, Brock Vandagriff. Previously, Vandagriff never was able to find much time on the field while at Georgia. Now, the SEC will finally get to see what Vandagriff has to offer.

The running back room is highlighted by former Ohio State Buckeye DeaMonte “Chip” Trayanum. Last year, he ran for 373 yards and three touchdowns a year ago. At wide receiver, Barion Brown and Dane Key are both back for their junior seasons and form one of the best tandems in the SEC. Last season, Brown hauled in 43 passes for 539 yards and four touchdowns. At the same time, Key led the Wildcats in receiving with 42 receptions for 636 yards and six scores.

Overall, Kentucky’s defense was second in the SEC last season against the run. UK allowed only 113.1 yards per game on the ground.

Placekicker Alex Raynor was 10-of-11 on field goals a season ago. Including 5-of-6 from 40-plus yards, and will be a true weapon. Brown will return kicks for the Wildcats again this season. Correlate that is after leading college football with three kickoffs returned for touchdowns in 2023.
