In 2017, the Texas A&M Aggies hired Jimbo Fisher away from the Florida State Seminoles, where he won a national championship. At the onset, the Aggies presented Fisher with a national championship trophy on the come. Subsequently, the sky seemed the limit in 2021 when Fisher put together the greatest recruiting class in college football history. However, two years later, Fisher was sent packing with a $65 million check. Fisher’s offense was plodding and slow and outdated for now. Now, in his place comes Mike Elko, Fisher’s former defensive coordinator. Consider that Elko did the impossible at Duke.

2024 Aggies Preview
Texas A&M has managed just 12 victories in the past two seasons. However, new coach Mike Elko’s presence, along with the scheme of new offensive coordinator Collin Klein, raises optimism for improvement. The Aggies caught a sports betting scheduling break. To show they get Notre Dame, LSU, and Texas all coming to Kyle Field. In a best-case scenario, the Aggies could emerge as championship contenders. A nine-win season is a more realistic goal, and 8-4 is even more likely.
Injuries forced Texas A&M to change quarterbacks seven times over the past two seasons. Improving the offense starts with better College Football Betting protection. Last season, quarterback Conner Weigman was off to a fast start with 979 passing yards and eight touchdowns in three and a half games. But a missed blocking assignment led to his season-ending injury.
Bolstering the offensive line is a priority for first-year head coach Mike Elko, who comes to A&M from Duke. Three starters return up front, but only tackle Trey Zuhn III may be assured a starting role. Also, Kansas transfer Ar’maj Reed-Adams could unseat an incumbent.
Weigman will throw it to a solid group of receivers. Wideout Moose Muhammad III has been productive as a backup. Now, he moves into the starting lineup with Noah Thomas and Jahdae Walker. Also, the Aggies are in good shape at tight end with Donovan Green returning from injury and the arrival of Fresno State transfer Tre Watson.
The defense’s biggest question is how to replace All-America linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. The answer starts with the return of Freshman All-American Taurean York. Meanwhile, Transfer Scooby Williams (Florida) adds punch there.
Since 1995, Texas A&M has had only two double-digit win seasons. The Aggies have finished ranked in the top ten only twice in the past 26 years. The last great era of Texas A&M football was under RC Slocum from 1989 through 1999. Specifically, Slocum led the Aggies to five double-digit win seasons in that span with three Top-8 or better finishes.
In 2012, head coach Kevin Sumlin caught lightning in a bottle and rode Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel to an 11-2 record.
