Hugh Freeze is a study of the College Football betting rivalry between good and evil. Or between an Angel and the Devil. While leading the Ole Miss Rebels to surprising success, including two wins over the Alabama Crimson Tide, Freeze loved to quote the Bible. 2023 Auburn Tigers Preview
Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss pulled out an offshore betting thriller of a win over Alabama in 2014. Subsequently, the Crimson Tide won the SEC Championship and went to the College Football Playoff. And then Freeze and Ole Miss again pulled out a thriller of a win over Alabama in 2015. Late on, the Crimson Tide won the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff National Championship. But in 2016, Ole Miss went 5-7.
Consider that Freeze went a solid 39-25 at Ole Miss with three bowl victories in five seasons. Ole Miss was a College Football Betting program that won six games two years before he took over. Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne’s post-spring commitment solidifies the quarterback spot. Meanwhile, a handful of additions in the December window improved the outlook.
Indeed, Freeze isn’t expected to lead Auburn to the SEC title in ‘2023. But if the Tigers can return to the bowl scene, 2023 will be considered a successful debut for the new regime on the Plains.
Despite a strong and proud football history, the Auburn Tigers have always played in the state’s shadow of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Auburn has two claimed and four unclaimed national championships. Overall, the Tigers have won the SEC championship 16 times. They have boasted three Heisman Trophy winners and 31 consensus All-Americans.
Head coaches Ralph Jordan and Pat Dye are Auburn legends. Jordan won a national championship, as did Gene Chizik. Additionally, Tommy Tuberville and Gus Malzahn are other Auburn coaches that found success on the Plains. Cam Newton, Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Terry Beasley are among the legendary Auburn players that have worn the blue and orange.
