BCS college football action focuses on five major bowl games. The college football BCS National Championship is the main game as it supposedly matches up the top two teams in the country. The other BCS NCAA football bowl games are the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl.
BCS NCAA football bowl games are selected by rankings and by a committee. Unfortunately, the BCS college football system doesn’t always get things right. In the past teams have had valid arguments of why they should have been in the title game. This year that is no exception and many teams claim they should have a chance at the NCAA football BCS National Championship. Other teams will complain about being left out of the five BCS NCAA football bowl games. Missouri has perhaps the biggest complaint of all-time. They were ranked #1 a week ago, lost the Big 12 title game to Missouri and then were left out of the BCS NCAA football games while a team they beat, Kansas got in.
Georgia can complain that they were ranked fourth after Missouri and West Virginia lost and should be playing Ohio State instead of LSU in the BCS NCAA football title game. Oklahoma can claim they beat the #1 team in the country and they should be playing in the college football BCS title game. The only undefeated BCS college football team is Hawaii and they claim they should get a chance at the college football BCS National Championship.
The solution to the BCS NCAA football system is obviously a playoff. The problem with a playoff is that the bowls feel left out. The bowls make money and they don’t want to be left out of the equation. Sponsors like FedEx or Tostitos that sponsor bowl games also don’t want to be left out of the BCS NCAA football system. A playoff system could work and it could be done, but only if college presidents from the BCS NCAA football institutions push the issue and convince sponsors and television that the system would be profitable.
