NCAA odds on the Big East saw West Virginia lose their last regular game of the season against Pittsburgh which cost them a shot at the national title.
NCAA odds on West Virginia were greatly influenced by the play of quarterback Pat White. NCAA football odds had West Virginia favored in nearly every game in 2008. That may not be the case in 2008 as they have a new coach and some new players. West Virginia won the Fiesta Bowl in NCAA odds with Coach Bill Stewart and they have most of the offense returning led by White. Losing Steve Slaton will hurt. That doesn’t mean West Virginia can’t be just as good since Noel Devine is a future star.
Louisville Cardinals | Syracuse Orange |
Connecticut Huskies | South Florida Bulls |
Cincinnati Bearcats | Rutgers Scarlet Knights |
West Virginia Mountaineers | Pittsburgh Panthers |
South Florida is loaded on offense with nearly everyone back including quarterback Matt Grothe. The defense is again the question mark versus NCAA college football odds. How well they play will decide if South Florida wins the conference. NCAA odds on Cincinnati could be higher with since the Bearcats are one the rise. Cincinnati was a solid team that won 10 games according to NCAA odds stats and if QB Ben Mauk is granted another year of eligibility the Bearcats will be tough.
Connecticut seems to always have low NCAA odds on totals because their offense is weak and their defense great. That may be the case again in 2008 for the Huskies. Louisville was a huge disappointment in NCAA odds last year. Head coach Steve Kraghtorpe took a lot of criticism and most of it was valid as the team couldn’t win the close games. They lose QB Brian Brohm but they still have excellent running backs. They may not miss Brohm as much as people believe in NCAA football odds since Hunter Cantwell could be a good one.
Pittsburgh was doing nothing all season versus NCAA odds and then they get a win over West Virginia and everyone gets excited again. The problem is that Dave Wannstedt just doesn’t know how to take a team to the top. They have a lot of talent returning though and with RB LeSean McCoy they should be exciting versus NCAA odds. Rutgers loses running back Ray Rice so that will hurt them in NCAA football odds but QB Mike Teel is back and they still have some good offensive talent and a nice defense. Syracuse has been a mess under Greg Robinson versus NCAA odds but he gets another chance with 15 starters returning. He has never done it before, so even with Andrew Robinson at quarterback it may not matter in NCAA football odds.
