College Football Wisconsin Gets Fickell and Proven Winner
Certainly, Paul Chryst’s midseason firing came as a sports betting surprise. But change was necessary to prevent the program from sliding too much in the Big Ten. Especially with USC and UCLA on their way in 2024. As a former Ohio State player, Fickell is a Big Ten lifer (1993-96). Late on, he worked as an interim coach (2011) and assistant (2002-16) in Columbus.
Indeed, that experience helped Fickell emerge as one of the top coaches in college football at Cincinnati. Fickell guided the Bearcats to a 57-18 mark from 2017-22. Included in that stint was a trip to the CFB Playoff in 2021 and five seasons of nine or more wins. Fickell’s ties to the Big Ten should ensure a quick transition to the top spot in Madison. Also, his hires on offense suggest he will modernize Wisconsin’s offense. And then upgrade the program’s overall recruiting.
Brohm Comes Home to Louisville
Although Jeff Brohm turned down Louisville in 2018, it was inevitable that he would eventually return home. No coach is better suited to lead the program than Brohm. Consider he’s from Louisville and later starred as quarterback for the Cardinals. Further, he worked as an assistant from 2003-08. Brohm went 30-10 as the head coach at Western Kentucky and finished 36-34 in a six-year stint at Purdue. Also, the Boilermakers won 17 games over Brohm’s final two seasons. And they claimed the Big Ten West Division title in 2022.
Brohm brings the complete College Football Betting package to his alma mater. Including a record of high-powered offenses. And a track record of success at two different FBS jobs. Everything about Brohm’s homecoming suggests this should work at a high level.
Big Red Get a New Rhule
Like many college coaches who jump to the NFL, Matt Rhule struggled. However, if Rhule is showing he can adapt to the recent roster and rule changes in college football. There’s no reason he can’t replicate the success he found at Temple and Baylor. To show, Rhule, guided the Owls to a 28-23 mark. Including 20 victories from 2015-16 and a conference title in his final year. Following a 1-11 record at Baylor in 2017, the Bears went 18-9 over the next two seasons. Most important of all, Rhule is an established culture and program builder.
