College Football Odds – Kentucky Favored by a Field Goal at Louisville

Instate rivals battle on Saturday, September 4th with Kentucky favored in college football odds. This game will be part of ABC’s regional coverage on Saturday. The Wildcats are 3-point road favorites in college football betting odds at SBG. College football odds do favor Kentucky but it is hard to like either team in this game.  Both teams have new head coaches so it is really hard to know what to expect although there should be no shortage of points scored.

Kentucky:  The Wildcats have a new head coach in Joker Phillips who replaces Rich Brooks.  Kentucky is going with Mike Hartline as their starting quarterback this season. Hartline was hurt early last season but he won the job this spring. Kentucky will look to run the ball with Derrick Locke who had just less than 1,000 yards last year.

The team also has Randall Cobb who is a running and receiving threat. The defense for Kentucky doesn’t look very good and that is a concern against a Louisville team that could put points on the board.

Louisville:  The Cardinals are going with quarterback Adam Froman this season.  He started seven games last year for Louisville and was okay.  Head coach Charlie Strong is hoping he is a little more consistent in 2010.  Froman will need to play well as Louisville is switching to a spread offense this season.

The main target for Froman figures to be Doug Beaumont who has 100 catches over the past two years. The Louisville defense was rotten last year and not many starters return. That might be good news considering how often they let opposing teams score.

Over the Total:  We really don’t know how good Kentucky or Louisville is going to be in 2010.  What we do know is that neither team has a defense. Even though it is the first game and offenses can start slow, this game should go over the total. Kentucky won’t be able to shutdown Louisville’s new offense while Louisville’s defense can’t stop anyone.

Points should be plentiful and the over looks like a solid play.  Since the game is televised by ABC the total might get a little action as bettors like to watch and wager on points being scored.
